How We Operate How We Operate The Sherborn Community Center’s purpose is to promote and cultivate a sense of community in the Town of Sherborn. As such, it can be used by all town organizations and residents. It is organized with a Board of Directors who are elected annually by the Foundation members and who volunteer their time and talents to ensure that the building is welcoming and accessible, while preserving its historical beauty in the community’s center. It is run similar to a business, utilizing monthly Board meetings to conduct financial reviews, budget comparatives, capital planning exercises and building utilization rate analyses. Recently, the Board held a series of strategy sessions to focus on the organization's mission and develop the capabilities that will expand its role in Sherborn’s community life. Within the Board of Directors, there are five committees that manage the following areas: Membership, Building Preservation, Finance, Marketing and Special Events. Revenue is generated via membership drives, endowment funding, gifts, functions and rental income. Operating expenses are incurred in managing the building that include insurance, utilities, supplies and general maintenance. Current capital investment plans include window restoration, general painting, outside wall repairs and roof restorations. Maintaining the historic nature of the building is a high priority. Town residents are encouraged to join the Foundation to help fulfill its mission to enhance the sense of community in Sherborn through an annual membership drive. The Foundation also has an Endowment Fund, which is building toward the goal of funding the meeting costs of all Sherborn organizations who wish to meet here.
